Our Story

Every church’s beginnings is a gift of God in the power of the Holy Spirit.  Our church is no different.  In the early 1970’s a Christian couple felt led of God to donate land they owned for the glory of God.  That property was in an undeveloped location of the newly organized city of Rancho Cucamonga.  The property sits on what is now Highland Ave., between Hermosa and Archibald Aves.  In 1976 this land gave way to the newly organized Foothills Church of the Nazarene.

The location is scenic and beautiful.  Directly to the north are the San Gabriel mountains, and the famous Mt. Baldy is just to the left.  One can see mountains in nearly every direction, including Arrowhead and Big Bear, two of the area’s great vacation sites.  All around the church’s property homes continued to be built.  Over time the are became filled with neighborhoods.  Some 15-20 years ago the 210 freeway was completed all the way to I-15 to the east.  Now the church sits in a perfect location for easy access from nearly any direction.

As the neighborhood grew, the church grew.  Shortly after its founding, the church started Highland Ave Christian School.  Currently, it is rated the number one preschool in Rancho Cucamonga and the Inland Empire.  It is led by capable Christian teachers, who educated for the task, and deeply committed to Christ.  We are now experiencing the 2nd and 3rd generations of family bringing their children to our school

Over the years the work of worship, outreach, discipleship, service have been the priorities of the church.  The campus has grown in facility and effectiveness, and is currently engaged in a process of new ways of growth for service to God and to our community.

In 1993 Foothills Church of the Nazarene changed its name to Highland Ave Community Church of the Nazarene to be identify its location in the community.  To this day it remains a church committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ.  As a people, the church are committed to loving God fully, and loving our neighbor as ourselves.  We believe everyone should be welcome at church, and we want you to be welcome.  Come join us, and discover the love of God1!
